Far away from the ordinary, at a height of 2222 m, the Riffelalp Resort provides an oasis of tranquility… Unspoilt nature and warm hospitality awaits you. The 65 rooms and 5 suites offer breathtaking views of the Matterhorn from this unique hotel in the mountains.

The Riffelalp is a self contained resort hotel, accessed by the famous Gornergrat train from Zermatt. From the Riffelalp Station either a skidoo in winter, or the pretty tram in summer, will bring you to the reception entrance.

The hotel has 3 restaurants, a bar, indoor and outdoor pool, exclusive spa and a bowling alley! It is, as you would expect being located at 2222m, a ski-in / ski-out hotel and at the end of your ski day you are able to cruise down the red piste from Gornergrat and ski right to the hotel ski room door.

The rooms and suites consist of:

Suite Matterhorn – 2 bedrooms, balcony and view to the surrounding mountains and the Matterhorn, 1 bedroom with a king size bed, 1 with a queen size bed, living room, bathroom with separate shower.

Suite Monte Rosa – with balcony and view to the surrounding mountains and the Matterhorn, one bedroom with a king size bed, one room with a bunk bed, living room, bath with separate shower.

Cosy Junior Suite – for 2 adults and 2 children with view to the Matterhorn. One bedroom with a king size or twin bed and a separate salon with a sofa bed for the children. Bathroom with bathtub, separate WC.

Matterhorn Junior Suite – king size or twin bed, balcony and view to the surrounding mountains and to the Matterhorn, bathroom with bath and shower, separate WC.

Matterhorn Superior Room – king size or twin bed, balcony and view to the surrounding mountains and to the Matterhorn, bathroom with bath and shower, separate WC.

Natur Superior Room – king size or twin bed, in the middle of the nature. Bathroom with bath and shower, separate WC.

Matterhorn Classic Room –  king size or twin bed, with view to the surrounding mountains and to the Matterhorn, bathroom with bath/shower and WC.

Natur Classic Room – king size or twin bed, in the middle of the nature. Bathroom with shower and WC.

Natur Grandlit Room ­– Small, hearty room, with a queen bed, ideal for 1 person or for two lovers! Bathroom with bath/shower and WC.

Included in all the room rates are: Double bed or twin beds, Nespresso machine with coffee and tea capsules, Minibar, Humidifier, Safe.

Also with all rooms these facilities are also included: Free entrance to the Spa 2222m, participation in the program of the Riffelalp guide Yann (ski, off piste, walking), supervised kindergarten (in winter from Sunday to Friday, 3pm to 10.30pm) private locker for ski equipment in the luxurious ski room, L’Occitane welcome products, WiFi.

Eat & Drink

The Riffelalp Resort 2222m combines different types of gastronomy in its 3 restaurants.  Restaurant Alexandre, the mainstay for hotel guests. The Walliserkeller with its regional cuisine cooked on an open fire. Ristorante Al Bosco excellent gastronomy, “Italianità under the Matterhorn” with a large terrace on the side of the ski piste. The restauarants of the Riffelalp are over seen by Head Chef Luigi Lafranco.

Alexandre – The five star Restaurant. Restaurant Alexandre combines a cosy atmosphere and a spectacular view of the Matterhorn with the exquisite cuisine of regional and Mediterranean specialities. The dining room, at the heart of the hotel and with wood-panelled walls, exudes Alpine romanticism.

Dining here is a must for anyone who loves fresh products from the sea, lakes or rivers, and meat lovers won’t feel short-changed at the Restaurant Alexandre either.

Walliskeller – The Walliserkeller has a rustic and cosy chalet, mountain hut atmosphere, combined with delicious food. The perfect mix for a cosy winter evening as a couple or for a convivial gathering. The regional cuisine from the Pennine Alps spoils you with selected Swiss specialities such as cheese fondue, raclette and grills and guarantees a daily treat.

Al Bosco – The elegant Restaurant with sun terrace. Some mountain restaurants are frequented for their view, others for their food. The Al Bosco fulfils both of these wishes. “Italianità under the Matterhorn” Al Bosco is dedicated to the cuisine of the Italian and Swiss Alps. The menu consists of Italian classics, pasta and risotto, daily specials, a variety of à la carte dishes “dans la cocotte” and highlights such as the legendary Matterhorn Pizza and the Riffelalp “Gamelle”.

Vinothek – “Simply stunning!” are the first thoughts that come to mind when entering the Vinothek. A paradise for wine lovers and sommeliers. Embedded in wood and stone, the wine bottles are laid down according to their origin. In winter, several wine tastings take place each week in the small vault, exclusively for hotel guests. On Mondays, the Maître d’Hôtel or his assistant takes you on a journey through the Valais wine-growing region, on Wednesdays through the Italian wineries and on Fridays a trip around the world.

Bar 2222M – The spacious bar area and sun terrace. Sit back and enjoy the piano music while savouring your cocktail and the «dolce far niente».

Bar 2222m is in the middle of the Riffelalp Resort and is the ideal meeting place at any time of day through to the early hours.

Wellness & Spa

The wellness and spa consist of: An outdoor pool – Europe’s highest outdoor pool with a superb view of the Matterhorn, heated to 35°C / 95°F. An indoor pool, steam bath, Schönbiel Cave steam bath, Chriiter-Grotta saline bath and waterfalls, Finnish sauna, and an Organic sauna.  A relaxation room, solarium and mini fitness complete this area.
